What is a Tack?

A Tack is a temporary stitch, which is created to help keep pieces together, and is typically remove after final stitching. Often Bar Tacks are used when creating buttonholes. Tacking is a also another word for the method of starting a seam then reversing the seam a few times to stabilize the seam.
