Today a women came into our store, she was complaining that her brand new sewing machine was not sewing correctly. Upon further investigation we found that she was using poor quality sewing thread. Understitching keeps a lining or a facing from rolling onto the right side of a project. To create understitching subsequent to pressing the facing and the seam allowance away from the garment stitch through a very tiny 1/8’ from the seam. Some people trim the seam allowance prior to stitching eliminate bulk.
